Sparzinski, Betty J., age 82 of Hillcrest Lane, Glen Dale, WV died Thursday, July 24, 2008 in Mound View Health Care Center, Moundsville, WV.
She was born January 22, 1926 in Moundsville the daughter of the late Ollie and Irene Hall Myers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Sparzinski.
There will be no visitation. Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville.

July 18, 2008

Zervos-Wolverton, Lua “Boogie”, age 43, of Glen Easton, died Friday, July 18, 2008 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.
She was born April 10, 1965 in Moundsville, the daughter of the late Nick F. Zervos, Sr. and Virginia Wayt Zervos.
She was the Postmaster in the Dallas Post Office, having worked with the post office for over 14 years, a Protestant by faith, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Cameron.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Patrick Brian Wolverton, a sister Irene Campbell, and a brother Nick Zervos, Jr.
Survivors include a daughter Ashley (Mark) Gregware of Moundsville, a son Todd Dolin, II of Glen Easton, two sisters Christina (Rudy) Nardo of Shadyside, Julie (Mike) Clayton of Limestone, a sister-in-law Joyce Zervos of Moundsville, two grandchildren Jaydin and Brielle Gregware, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at Noon.
Entombment in Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum.

Hammerstone, Troy Anthony, age 24, of New Martinsville, died Friday, July 18, 2008.
He was born December 19, 1983 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey.
He was an employee of Quinet’s Restaurant, a member of Indian Creek Southern Baptist Church, loved four wheeling and fishing.
He was preceded in death by a maternal grandfather William Allen Stanley, paternal grandparents William Henry and Irene Carol, and an aunt Donna Stanley.
Survivors include his mother Sue (Joe) Blake of New Martinsville, his father Thomas Hammerstone, Sr. of Lancaster, PA, a maternal grandmother Evelyn Maxine Stanley of Moundsville, a brother Tommy Hammerstone of Middlebourne, a sister Rebekka Lynn Hammerstone of Moundsville, a half-brother Justin Andrew Hammerstone of Lancaster, two nieces, two nephews, and many friends including best friends Seth Robinson and Josh Korns.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 751 Third St., New Martinsville, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00am with Pastor Bobby Thomas officiating.

Edgell, Joshua Brent, age 28, of Benwood Road, Sardis, died Friday, July 18, 2008 in Wetzel County Hospital.
He was born June 19, 1980 in Sistersville, WV, the son of Joe and Pam Edgell of Sardis.
He was an employee of Sprouse Aluminum.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Simon and Helen Edgell.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister Kristy (Alex) Kish of Rittman, Ohio, two brothers Ryan and Jesse Edgell both of Sardis, maternal grandparents George and Ellen Powell of Sardis, several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews including Uncle Gene, Uncle John, Uncle Allen, and Uncle Junior.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home, 37234 Mound Street, Sardis, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00am with Rev. Frank Conley officiating.

Bennington, Barbara Jean, age 65 of Sycamore St. Powhatan Point, Ohio, died Thursday, July 17, 2008at home.
She was born February 20, 1943, the daughter of the late Russell and Edna Smith Fankhauser.
She was a former cook at Ormet Aluminum in Hannibal, Ohio, an organist at the Methodist church, and a member of American Legion Auxiliary in Powhatan Point.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Charles Folden, her 2nd husband, Hewing Bennington, a son, Shawn Folden and a great-granddaughter, Makayla Marie Folden.
Survivors include two sons, Steve (Connie) Folden of Powhatan Point, and Scott (Christina) Folden of Jacobsburg, OH, seven grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm and on Tuesday from Noon until the time of service at 2:00pm at Grisell Funeral Home, 125 Clarinda Drive, Clarington.
Interment in Clarington Cemetery, Clarington.

Hall, Wanda, age 78 of RD2, Moundsville, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV
She was born February 8, 1930 on Roberts Ridge, Moundsville, the daughter of the late Joseph E. Cain and Rebecca L. Hill Cain Hawkins.
Wanda was the former owner/operator of Hall’s Mart on Roberts Ridge. Her life was her family, whom she enjoyed spending time with and caring for. She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Moundsville
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: William “Harvey” Hall in 1998, two sisters: Marion Hawkins and Dottie Higgins and one brother: Eddie Dwayne Hawkins.
Survivors include one son: C. Harvey Hall of Moundsville; four daughters: Brenda (Larry) Wade of Moundsville, Christine (Kelly) Cecil of Moundsville, Cathey (Michael) Atamaniuk of Pompano Beach, FL and Dee Dee (Tony) Novel of Moundsville; one brother: Albert (Beverly) Cain of FL; one sister: Betty Ruth Boso of Tiltonsville, OH; 7 grandsons, 5 granddaughters, and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00am with Rev. Marcy Taylor-Calvert officiating.

Burnside, Harry J., age 86, of Moundsville, formerly of Wheeling, died Monday, July 14, 2008 in Country Home.
He was born February 23, 1922 in Brilliant, Ohio, the son of the late Esbie and Mayme Dusterdick Burnside.
He was a retired electrician from Tri-State Electric in Glen Dale, a Protestant by faith, and a former volunteer for The Seeing Hand.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Burnside, a daughter Mary Ann Burnside, and four sisters.
Survivors include a daughter Margaret (Gerald) Selke of Hammonton, NJ, a brother Carlos Burnside of Wheeling, two grandsons Christopher and Derek Selke, two brothers-in-law Tom (Ruth) Johnson of Glen Dale, Charles Johnson of Moundsville, a sister-in-law Wilma (Harold) West of Moundsville, several nieces and nephews.

Ensinger, Roy W. age 80 of Ensinger Lane, Sardis, Ohio, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at home.
He was born October 14, 1927 in Hannibal, OH, the son of the late Julius and Emma B. Gauding Ensinger.
He was a retired millwright at Conalco, Hannibal, Ohio, and a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Sardis, USWA Local 5760, Sardis, a U.S Army Veteran and a member of American Legion Post 760, Hannibal.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a sister, Mary L. Vaingat and a niece, Katherine Mang.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Bauman Ensinger, two sons, Roy W. (Susie) Ensinger Jr. of Sardis, and Ken Ensinger of Powhatan Point, OH; two grandsons, Jason and Derek Ensinger, both of Powhatan Point; and a niece, Barbara McIntire of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Grisell Funeral Home, 125 Clarinda Drive, Clarington, where services will be held Thursday at 1:00 pm with Pastor Donald Hitchcock officiating. Chambers, Wayne Eugene, age 49, of Cameron, WV departed this life on July 11, 2008 in Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV surrounded by family and friends.
He was born May 18, 1959 in Wheeling, WV the son of Lucille Chambers of Cameron and the late Bobbie Joe Chamber, Sr.
Wayne was an active member of the Cameron E- Squad where he was a member for 28 years having served as an EMT, President, Treasurer and a Driver. He also was a member of the Cameron Volunteer Fire Department where he proudly served in various capacities for 30 years including Fire Chief, Asst. Fire Chief, President, Treasurer, and was Fireman of the Year. He served as a RESA- 6 Fire Service Instructor and played an active role in Cameron’s Alumni FFA Organization where he served as treasurer.
He was a groundsman for Marshall County Schools and a member of the former First Baptist Church in Cameron.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobbie Joe Chambers, Jr.
In addition to his mother, survivors include, a sister Mary Jane ( James) Dolan and a brother, Roger (Jennifer) Chambers all of Cameron; a niece, Monique (Matthew) Call of Mannington; two nephews, Austin and Brayden of Cameron; a great nephew, Wyatt Bridger Call of Mannington; three aunts, Thelma (Paul) Metea of Warren, OH, Georgia Anderson of Cameron, and Lilo Chambers of Tampa, FL; one uncle Paul (Mary Kay) Chambers of Moundsville and several cousins.

Bohrer, Grace V., 80, of Proctor, WV, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Phyllis Ritchie Personal Care Home, Sistersville, WV.
She was born December 26, 1927 in Cloe, WV, the daughter of the late Cecil and Essa Anne Lancaster Lamb.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Proctor Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship, and a Deaconess of the church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sands, and a daughter, Diana Dugas.
Survivors include her husband, George Howard Bohrer; two sons, George (Virginia) Bohrer of Ashville, PA and Robert W. (Kari) Bohrer of Nashville, TN; five daughters, Vicky Bohrer of East Liverpool, OH, Debra (Jim) Frohnapfel of Proctor, Roberta (Kevin) Thomas of Liberty Township, OH, Rebecca (Jeff) Klug of Houston, PA and Kim (John) Honaker of Hurricane, WV; three brothers, Charles Lamb and Randy C. Lamb, both of St. Cloud, FL and Harry P. Lamb of Ft. Pierce, FL; 20 grandchildren, a great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

Mullett, John William, 75, of Doolin Route, New Martinsville, WV, died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.
He was born November 20, 1932 in Wetzel County, WV, the son of the late Harry S. and Jennie Hassig Mullett.
He was a member of Limestone United Methodist Church since 1950; a 1950 graduate of Magnolia High School; a U.S. Army veteran; and a farmer. In 1994 he retired as an instrumentician from PPG Industries with 39 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Harriett Mullett.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Estlack Mullett; three daughters, Cathy and Danny Westfall, Sarah and Kevin Yeater, and Brenda and Donnie Brookover, all of New Martinsville; six grandchildren, Amy Ann Holliday, Joshua and Eliza Anne (Yeater) Miller, Andrew Eli Yeater, Megan Nicole Brookover, Rebecca Dawn Brookover, and Samuel Eli Brookover; and a sister, Ruth Mullett of New Martinsville.

She was a retired LPN and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jacqueline Mae Chiappetta and her son, Michael Chiappetta
Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years James R. Blair; two sons, James (Vicki) Blair II of Clarksburg, PA and Thomas Chiappetta of Moundsville; a daughter, Cassie J. (Ralph) Clark of Moundsville; two grandchildren Christian L. Blair and James R. Blair III of Clarksburg, PA; four step grandchildren, Aimee (Joe) Skok of Greensburg, PA, Zachary Hodgman of Clarksburg, PA, Brenda (Pete) Mazzilli of Moundsville and Christopher (Michelle) Clark of Wheeling; her aunt, Alice Jo (Jack) Buzzard of Cameron; a sister-in-law, Shirley Henderson of Benwood and many cousins.

He was born February 11, 1963 in Washington D.C., the son of the late George and Dorothy Wills McIntosh.
He was an independent contractor and a member of the Church of the Nazarene in New Martinsville.
Survivors include his wife, Sherri McIntosh; two sons, Brandon Mills of TX and Joshua McIntosh of New Martinsville; two daughters, Jennifer Mills and Bethany McIntosh, both of New Martinsville; a brother, Danny Schoot of OH; two sisters, Debbie_Lewellen and Gina O’Dell; and two grandchildren, Hancel and Rilynn Lasure.

Resseger, Eileen Myra, age 80, of Pleasants Lane, New Martinsville, WV, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at Wetzel County Hospital.
She was born August 30, 1927 in Wheeling, WV, the daughter of the late John William and Katherine Manning Oblinger and Jane Stackhouse Oblinger.
She was a member of Proctor Christian Church where she belonged for over 68 years and served as an honorary deacon. Eileen also served as a volunteer at Wetzel County Hospital
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Oblinger.
Survivors include her husband, Francis Earl Resseger; a daughter, Sharon Maston of New Martinsville; two sons, John Richard Resseger of FL and Roger Lee (Norma Smith) Resseger of Proctor; eight grandchildren, Joshua (Melissa) Maston of Middlebourne, Ashlee (Ben) Kulpa of Newburg, OR, Heather (Shawn) Kelly of Proctor, Aimee (Fred) Gaines of Proctor, Rick (Heather) Resseger of CA, Ashley (Shawn) Shreves of VA and Buzz and Doc Savopoulos of FL; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a sister in law Mona Oblinger of Paden City; and several nieces and nephews.

Kocher, Richard L. age 65, of RD 4, Cameron went to be with his Lord after a long courageous battle Thursday, July 3, 2008 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown surrounded by his family.
He was born November 2, 1942 in Bellaire, Ohio the son of the late Vernon and Ruth Hammond Kocher.
He was a member of the Moundsville Baptist Church and retired from Ormet after 35 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Michelle Kocher and a brother Charles Kocher.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years Wilda Lightner Kocher, a son Richard (Lisa) Kocher, II of Rhoadesville, VA, a daughter Kimberly (Pat) Molden of Marietta, OH, a step-son Dennis (Amber) Aston of Cameron, two step-daughters Julie (Brett) Hawkins of Cameron, and Raquel Powell of Moundsville, 13 grandchildren, two aunts, an uncle, several nieces and nephews.

He was born December 31, 1928 in Mexico.
He was a retired attendant from the Goodwill Rehabilitation Center.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Frances Martin; four sons, Thomas (Vicki) Hall of Yorkville, OH, Mark Hall of Canton, OH, Ken (Shirley) Hall of Yorkville, and Lane Fowler of Canton, OH; a daughter, Hazel (Chuck) Carter of Georgia; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Chambers, Charles William “Bill”, Sr., age 85 of RD#4, Moundsville, WV died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.
He was born July 2, 1922 the son of the late Sam and Goldie Slonaker Chambers; in Moundsville where he spent his entire life.
Bill attended school in Moundsville and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
He served in WWII for 3 ½ years in Signal Corp attached to Air Force (C2); was employed several years at Wheeling Steel and later several years at LCP/Allied Chemical in maintenance; where he retired.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Blair Chambers; a sister, Connie Atkins; a brother, Ivan “Ike” Chambers, and a grandson, Charles William “Chuck” Chambers, III.
Survivors include his second wife of 33 years, Jane Toothman Chambers; two sons, Charles William Jr. (Sharon) Chambers and Blair (Michelle) Chambers; a brother, Don (Thelma) Chambers; a sister, Helen Grisell, all of Moundsville; a grandson, Dr. Craig (Anne) Chambers of Williamstown, WV; two granddaughters, Lisa (Blane) Rich and Libby Chambers; a stepson, Robert (Sabrina) Montgomery of Moundsville; a stepdaughter, Susan (Chuck) Barnett of Westerville, OH; two step-granddaughter, Leslie (Tom) Gurzs of Lewis Center, OH and Shelby Hess; two step-grandsons, Dr. Andrew (Rachel) Montgomery of Elkins, WV and Alex Hess; and four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was born May 21, 1917 in Jacksonburg, WV, the daughter of the late John and Priscilla Brock Aberegg.
She was a quilter and homemaker; and a Presbyterian by faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Aberegg; and 6 sisters, Clara Dunlap, Ellen Egan, Vera Gray, Florence Karr, Martha Hillberry, and Lelah Karr.
Survivors include her loving husband of 68 years, Glen Higgins; two sons, John (Nita) Higgins of New Martinsville, WV and Ross (Jeanie) Higgins of Paden City, WV; a daughter, Synthia (Raymond) Figlar of Pine Grove; four grandchildren, Priscilla Higgins, Penny (Kevin) Harrison, Heather (Brad) Heck, and Nathan (Tabitha) Figlar; two step grandsons, Jeff (Amie) Henderson and Bill (Alyssa) Henderson; two great granddaughters, Jasmine and Linda Figlar; five step great grandchildren, Tanner, Zachary, Emilee, Cole and Casey Henderson and several nieces and nephews.

Milliken, Bertha T., retired teacher of Hundred High School, died June 28, 2008 in New Martinsville Health Care Center at the age of 101.
A resident of New Martinsville, West Virginia, she was born December 21, 1906 near Earnshaw, WV. She was the daughter of the late Brown E. and Margaret J. Hudson Teagarden.
She was a graduate of Littleton High School in 1925 and of Fairmont State College.
Bertha was involved with the Wetzel County School system for 25 years, beginning her career in a one-room schoolhouse at Long Drain, WV. She spent 14 years at Hundred High School before retiring in 1972.
She was a lifetime member of WV Association of Retire School Employees, a member of the New Martinsville Homemakers, the Steelton United Methodist Church, and the Suzanne Circle of the United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John W. Milliken on May 20, 1984, a son Charles Wayne “C.W.” Milliken, a daughter-in-law Helen Rita Spies Milliken, two brothers Ray and Ralph Teagarden.
Survivors include a granddaughter Mary Kay (R.L.) Milliken of New Martinsville, a sister June Church of Orlando, FL, a great-granddaughter Abigail Christine Milliken and a great-grandson Alexander Joseph Milliken both of New Martinsville.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00am until 1:45pm at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 751 Third St., New Martinsville.
Graveside services and interment will be held Monday at 2:00pm at Greenlawn Memorial New Martinsville with Fr. Stephen Vallelonga officiating.

Workman, Francis A.
June 25, 2008

Workman, Francis A., 72, of Russell Avenue, New Martinsville, WV, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at the New Martinsville Health Care Center.
He was born September 19, 1935 in Moundsville, WV, the son of the late Joe and Mahala Greathouse Workman.
He was a farmer; a member of Moose Lodge #931 and the American Legion Post #28, both of New Martinsville; and a member of the First Christian Church in New Martinsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond, Simon, Marion and Roy Workman.
Survivors include his good friends, Mr. & Mrs. John Newman and Mr. & Mrs. William Knisely, all of New Martinsville; and Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Newman of Columbus, OH.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 5-9pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, where funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00am with Rev. LeMoyne Horner officiating.
Interment in Antioch Christian Church, Proctor, WV.


 
 

Howell, John H., Jr.
June 23, 2008

Howell, John H. Jr., 76, of Wetzel Street, New Martinsville, WV, died Monday, June 23, 2008 at the New Martinsville Health Care Center.
He was born September 15, 1931 in New Martinsville, the son of the late John H. and Bertha Hickman Howell, Sr.
He was a farmer, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and a Protestant by faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Howell; a brother, Floyd W. Howell; and a nephew, Jack Priest.
Survivors include four brothers, Raymond L. Howell of New Martinsville; Homer Howell of Smithfield, WV; Charles Howell of Hastings, WV; and Warren Howell of New Martinsville; two sisters, Betty L. Klug and Phyllis Priest, both of New Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10am until time of funeral service at 11:00am at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, with Rev. David Snyder officiating.
Interment in Northview Cemetery where the Sistersville Combined Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.
