Wanda Jean (Raper) Burns was peacefully released from her twelve year courageous battle with cancer on July 29, 2007 at7:49 at the Hospice Center in Houston, Texas. She was born on January 30, 1936 to Ernest Eugene Raper and the late Mary Helen (Hartman) Raper. Wanda was retired in 1995 from Corning Glass Works after thirty-five years of employment beginning at the Paden City, West Virginia Plant and ending at the Charleroi Plant in Pennsylvania. She was an active member of the First Church of God in New Martinsville,West Virginia, the Rehobeth Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania and Bethany Christian Church in Houston, Texas where she served as a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Hartman Raper and her younger sister, Joyce Raper in 1968. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, George Paul Burns, Jr., a daughter, Jesenda Lynne Burns Allen and her husband, Mark, of Houston, Texas, three sons, Kevin Eugene Burns and his wife, Darla, of Dallas, Texas, George P. Burns III of Maryland and William W. Burns of Michigan, grandchildren Joshua Liberty Burns and Kaylyn Nicole Burns of Dallas and her first great-granddaughter, Hannah Nicole, who is expected to arrive in November of 2007, her father, Ernest E. Raper of Sardis, and her siblings, Don Raper of Woodsfield, Ohio, Raymond Raper and Bernice Raper Jones of Sardis, Ohio. At Wanda’s request, a private family visitation will be held on Friday, August 3, 2007 at Grisell Funeral Home in Sardis, Ohio, and will be followed by an open graveside service at 1:00PM at Sardis Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held for family and friends at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Sardis Fire House by the Community Club. An additional Memorial Service will be held at a date to be determined at Bethany Christian Church in Houston, Texas.
