Carl Edgar Walters, age 85 passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, at Sturgill Hospice House in Brooksville, FL. Born October 29, 1938, he was the eldest son of the late, William (Bill) Walters and Dorothy Lancaster Walters. Carl graduated from Tyler County High School in Middlebourne, WV in 1956. As a young adult, he lived in Barberton, OH and worked for the Ohio Brass Company, but returned home and lived for over 37 years in his childhood community of Alvy, WV in Tyler County. He enjoyed his retirement years living between North Carolina and Florida. Carl was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather (pappy), and friend. He was known for his generosity, outgoing personality, and for telling great stories. He was a member of the Alvy Church of Christ. He was also a member of the National Masonic Lodge #568 F. & A.M. in Barberton, OH and later, a lifetime member of the Columbus Masonic Lodge. Carl enjoyed going camping and attending bluegrass festivals and playing guitar there with his bluegrass friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Neal Walters; a sister, Doris Walters Underwood; and a great grandson, Macallan Jude Pratt. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Judith Louise Hartley Walters; five children, Ronald Carl Walters & his wife Stephanie of Left Hand, WV, Robert Allan Walters & his wife Rebecca of New Martinsville, WV, Deborah Walters Schmidt & her husband Monk of Mount Vernon, OH, Kevin Duane Walters & his wife Donna of Clendenin, WV, and Jennifer Walters Overmann & her husband Paul of Reidsville, NC; two brothers, Jerry Walters of Alvy, WV and Roger Walters of Louisville, OH; a sister, Barbara Walters Baker of Alvy, WV; Grandchildren, Jessica Walters Stout & Shaun Walters (children of Ronnie); Brandon Walters, Tasha Walters Starkey, Jenni Walters (children of Robert); Nathan Pratt & Caleb Pratt (children of Debbie); Danielle Walters Kirby, Heather Walters, Kellie Walters (children of Kevin); Emma Neal & Eli Neal (children of Jennifer); and numerous Great Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, WV where funeral services will be held Monday at 11am with Rev. Stephen Rector officiating. Interment in Victory Cemetery, Tyler County, WV where the Middlebourne Masonic Lodge #34 AF & AM will conduct Masonic graveside services.
