Douglas Bryce Bohrer Douglas B. Bohrer left this life peacefully Thursday morning Jan 9th, 2025 of natural causes. Doug was born July 24th 1957 . Was the son of the late Bryce and Velma McFadden Bohrer and the brother of the late Gregory 'Flash' Bohrer growing up in the heart of downtown Proctor, WV. He is survived by many cousins, mostly close to and also centering in the proud village of Proctor. Doug was a 1976 graduate of Magnolia high school, he played sports and participated in many high school related extracurriculars. Doug was an avid sports fan, some would say he was a walking encyclopedia with knowledge of just about all of the good players that played for high school and college teams in our tri-state area. He and his brother Flash and their friends would often travel to go witness the great players and teams from these schools. Doug and his brother attended the West Virginia state boys basketball tournament watching most all games for over 40 years and also attending neighboring states H.S. tournaments when their schedules allowed. Doug and his brother were also over 40 year active members in the Magnolia High School sports boosters, raising money and tending to the extra needs that the sports teams needed. He also worked for nearly 50 years at the local railroad yard , ironically right beside his brother Flash. The two were basically inseparable throughout their lives and their overheard conversations were extremely comedic and would always have listeners chuckling in disbelief. They were very entertaining indeed, ribbing each other incessantly. it was , at times, just simply 'hilarious' to listen to them two, if only it could have been recorded! Everyone that knew Doug loved him just almost like a family member. He knew and had more friends than most. He was known throughout his circle for his comedic "brycisms" that were often quick-witted sayings with a sense of humor that only he could understand, and they were often compared to the witticisms and homespun humor of Will Rogers. Often after hearing a 'brycism' the listeners could be heard saying "he sure aint no Will Rogers', but they would get lost in thought digesting the deepness of the metaphoric "brycism" that they just heard. He could fill a book with them. Doug was an avid bowler, authoring 5 or 6 perfect '300' games. He would bowl many nights a week including traveling bowling teams to local tournaments. He was also a decent summer league ball player participating in softball and basketball. He made each team just a little bit better. He also bragged about being a good swimmer and claimed to have swam across the Ohio river in his younger days which is not an easy feat. No one ever claimed he didn't! The stories about Bryce from his many legion of friends could go on and on and on, they could honestly entertain almost endlessly. He was loved and liked by almost everyone he ever met. He was kind and thoughtful throughout his life and he always wanted his friends to know how much he liked and loved them also, most often done not by words but with his thoughtful deeds when someone just needed a thoughtful deed. He will surely be missed by many, and his friends lives just won't quite be the same without Bryce on their radar any longer. He was truly 'one of a kind'! Friends will be received on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 11am until time of service at 2:00 pm at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory 751 Third St. New Martinsville, WV, with Pastor Mike Shank officiating.
