Elisabeth “Lisa” Holzmann Wetzel, age 91 of New Martinsville, WV passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023, peacefully at her home surrounded by family. She was born May 13, 1931, in Bruckmuehl, Germany, daughter of the late Georg and Franziska (Sitzberger) Holzmann, a Catholic by faith. She relocated from her beloved Bavaria to the United States for her family. Despite growing up during a very tumultuous time, she was full of happy memories from her childhood, and continued to have a love of life and positive attitude –- she always said she was going to live to be 90! She will be missed at the local Wetzel County Farmers Market where she sold her cookies and breads (the Cookie Lady!) She loved nature and was active most of her life; she enjoyed walking with her son-in-law Steve, passed on her love of flowers and gardening to her children, and she could mimic birdsong so well the birds in her yard would answer her (she was also a champion yodeler). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William L. “Bill” Wetzel Jr., three brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by four daughters, Heather Wetzel (Steve) Parks of New Martinsville, Irene (Jim) Owens of Columbia, SC , Theresa Wetzel of Westerville, OH, and Gisela (Lonnie) Willis of Keithville, LA and one son, Pete (Betty) Wetzel of Stonewall, LA; six grandchildren Christopher Owens and Matthew Owens of Columbia, SC, Dan Hahn of Columbus, OH, Michael Hudson of Shreveport, LA, Sara Zakarison of Westerville, OH and Stormy (Jeremy) Wicks of Frisco, TX; eleven great grandchildren, Luke, Lilly and Jake Zakarison of Westerville, OH, Ethan, Henry, Ellie Hahn of Columbus, OH, Skylar Boyd, Baili, Alex, and Tristan Wicks of Frisco, TX, and Brittney (Justin) Ivey of Keithville, LA; two great-great grandchildren, Jentry and Emery Ivey of Keithville, LA; a niece Ingrid Kessler, great nephew Michael Kessler, and great-great niece Julia Kessler of Munich, Germany, her honorary daughter and friend Loretta Baker of New Martinsville, WV and her best friend Mary (Virgil) Templeton of Paden City, WV, and her lifelong friend Marlene Lackemacher of Sacramento , CA. (And of course, her grand puppies, Chico and Kaylee.). Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 23 from Noon until 1pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville.
