Tributes

Harbert, Jerry Lee of Clearview Heights, Moundsville, WV died July 7, 2011 in Wheeling Hospital Medical Park following a fifteen year battle with heart disease. He was born in Wheeling, WV July 17, 1939, the fourth and youngest child of the late Tillman Bryan and Isabelle Hickman Harbert. A graduate of the former Moundsville High School and West Liberty State College, Jerry was a veteran of the USAF, honorably serving his country as AIC from 1960 to 1964. Trained as an in-flight refueling specialist, he loved his flying assignments in K-B 50's. A man of many talents, he held various jobs throughout his life ranging from teaching the neighborhood youth corps to professional trucking, pharmaceutical sales with Vestal Laboratories, coal mining in Clarington, OH, administrative assistant to the late WV State Treasurer, Denzil Gainer; and most recently trucking for Fraley and Shilling of Brilliant, OH and Sledd Co. of Wheeling. Jerry's loves in life were as varied as his employment; flying, building and flying R/C model airplanes, motor repair, watch repair, trucking, motorcycling, reading, antiquing, and spending time at Wheeling Downs. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents were a brother, Walter Bryan Harbert of Nevada; and an aunt, Evelyn L. Hickman of Glen Dale. Surviving are his wife of forty-six years, Judith Brant Harbert; a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Elson of Wheeling; a son, Brant Lee Harbert (Katey Younger-Harbert) of Moundsville; grandsons, Braxton Lee Harbert of Wheeling, Alexander Brant Harbert and Kaleb Michael Younger of Moundsville; sisters, Iris Procter Steele (Robert) of El Cajon, Calif., and Evelyn L. Kovalick of Glen Dale; nephews, George E. Kovalick of Nevada, Dr. Michael Kovalick (Susan) of Wheeling, William Paul Kovalick (Becky Sue) of Glen Dale, and Joseph Alan Kovalick (Luanne) of Calif. Jerry will be sadly missed by his family and friends, as well as his canine buddy, Denby, the Jack Russell. Visitation will be held Monday from 2pm until time of service at 6pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville with Fr. Terrance Adams officiating and the Moundsville Honor Guard conducting Military Services. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
