Herrick, Clem N., 84, of Proctor, WV, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 5, 2008, in New Martinsville Health Care Center, New Martinsville. He was born December 18, 1923 in St. Joseph Settlement in Proctor, the eighth child of 14 of the late Albert and Bernetta Shutler Herrick; and a Catholic by faith. Clem was married to Betty Ruth Mercer, daughter of William & Eliza Jane Mercer, on February 11, 1950. They celebrated 58 years of marriage together. Clem was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired 40 year employee of the former Herrick’s IGA, where he was a meat cutter during his employment. He also owned and worked his farm raising food and livestock to support his family. He was a member of the Southern States Cooperative and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). He volunteered his services to the local community each year at the Town & Country Days’ deep pit BBQ roast, and for several years at the Grandview Emergency Squad. He was an avid sports fan; and thoroughly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. Clem was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he served his parish as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed volunteering in various church activities, such as the annual Fourth of July Picnics at St. Joseph’s Church and the Lenten Fish Fries at St. Vincent’s Church. He also attended the annual Men’s Retreat at the St. Paul VI Pastoral Center in Wheeling, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine June, and son-in-law David McGraw; two sisters, Beulah Herrick Estep and Lucille Herrick; and six brothers, Edwin, John, Andrew, Martin, Eugene, and Thomas Herrick. Surviving are six daughters, Judith (Rudy) Fazzini of Wheeling, WV, Jane McGraw of New Martinsville, Joan (Scott) Henry of Albright, WV, Jacqueline Herrick of Cleveland, OH, Janet Herrick (Adam Hoyles) of Jacksonville, FL, and Jennifer (Todd) Fox of Winter Garden, FL; three sons, Jeffrey (Molly) Herrick of Petersburg, WV, Jacob (Carie) Herrick of Aurora, CO and Jerry (Rosie) Herrick of Columbus, OH; four sisters, Helena Herrick (Joseph) Baxter of New Martinsville, Rose Herrick Goddard of Proctor, Virginia Herrick Novel of Moundsville, WV, and Callista Herrick (Chuck) Habig of Woodsfield, OH; a brother, Albert Herrick of New Martinsville; two sisters-in-law, Eloise Herrick and Polly Herrick, both of New Martinsville, 12 grandchildren, Anthony and Phillip Fazzini, Jason McGraw and Amy McGraw Cooley, Rebecca and Nicholas Herrick, Lucy Lou Herrick, Logan and Ian Miller, Lucas and Kathleen Herrick and Ethan Fox; 6 great grandchildren, Luciano, Sophia and Adriana Fazzini, Cassara, Alexis, and Hunter Cooley; numerous nieces and nephews; and his devoted canine and four-wheeling friend, “Maggie”. Family will receive friends on Friday from 4-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville, with rosary devotions recited at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Proctor, with Fr. Frank Neville as celebrant. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Proctor.
