Hope Leanne Carnahan, 55, of Haymarket, Virginia, passed away on May 12, 2019, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Hope and her twin sister, Holly Woods, were born on March 7, 1964 in Austin, Texas while her parents were stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base. Her parents, Ray and Karen (Hill) Woods later returned to Moundsville, where they still are living, and where Hope attended Union Clay Grade School, Moundsville Junior High, and John Marshall High School. Hope received her BS in Elementary Education in 1986 from West Liberty State College and earned her Master's Degree in 2006 from George Mason University. Hope was a dedicated teacher for over 22 years in Prince William County Schools and dedicated most of her career as a second grade teacher at Bennett Elementary in Manassas, VA. She had a special place in her heart and was a staunch advocate for the many children with special needs in her mainstream classroom. Hope was preceded in death by her grandparents, Raymond and Naomi “Sis” Woods, and Landon and Mabel Hill; her father-in-law, Dave Carnahan; and just last week her uncle, Rick Woods. Hope and her husband of 31 years, Chuck Carnahan, are so proud of their children, CJ of Richmond, VA, and Emma of Haymarket, VA. In addition to her husband and parents, she is also survived by her twin sister, Holly Woods of Moundsville, her sister, Dr. Melissa Miller and her husband, Chris Miller of Hedgesville, WV; mother-in-law, Rose Carnahan of Glen Dale; in- laws, Rob and Lee Ann Carnahan of Moundsville, Tim and Bridget Carnahan of Benwood, Sharon and Will Stapleton of Glen Dale, and Amy and Mike Carroll of Lewis Center, OH; nieces and nephews, Jake Carnahan, Megan (Mark) Chambers, Mia (Mike) Angalich, Matt Carnahan, Mason Miller, Malik Jordan, Alex Carnahan, Morgan Miller, Zack Carroll, Reagan Carroll, Emerson Carroll; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Woods, Hill, Simmons, and Brown families. Her Family is grateful to the Doctors and Staff of Inova Schar Cancer Institute, and Dr. Elizabeth Buchinsky, Dr Yvette Sandoval, Dr. Maha Abdel-Kader, and the Staffs of Capital Caring Hospice, Senior Caring of Northern Virginia, our amazing church Family, Living Hope Evangelical Church, Our family members who have traveled to Virginia and assisted in Hope’s care, Our amazing friends and neighbors in Haymarket and across the country who offered assistance in the way of meals, transportation assistance, lodging, furniture and equipment donations, rides to treatments and most of all prayer support. We are particularly grateful for our daughter Emma and Hope’s parents, who have put their lives on hold for the past two years to care for Hope. Family will receive friends Monday from 5-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10am with Pastor Tim MacGowan officiating. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Moundsville. A Memorial Service will be held on June 9th in Haymarket, VA. Hope had a special place in her heart for children with special needs.
