Tributes

Miller, John R., age 71 of Alta Vista, Glen Dale, WV died Saturday, January 2, 2010 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale. He was born February 5, 1938 in Wheeling, WV the son of the late J. Russell and Ruth Walsh Miller. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Moundsville. Before beginning his eight-year battle with sinus and lung cancer, John was very active in his church and community. His priorities in life were serving God’s children and enhancing the spiritual growth of his church and those he met. Because of his health, he had to retire in 2001 after numerous years devoted to education and various areas of church ministry. He requested that his accomplishments not be listed because they are known by his Heavenly Father. His sins, shortcomings and failures—what he did and what he failed to do have been forgiven by his Father. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Patricia Schneid Miller. Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Carol Parsons Miller; two daughters, Tiffany (Jason) Turner, and Melanie (Mark) Aquilino, all of Moundsville; a brother, Joseph (Phyllis) Miller of Wheeling; two sisters, Janet (Jack) Ullom, and Jayann (Regis) Wenzel, all of Wheeling; three grandchildren, Gino and Shelby Aquilino, and Maggie Turner, all of Moundsville; several nieces and nephews; special friend and companion, his dog Lacey. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville where vigil service will be held at 6pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10am at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 610 Jefferson Ave. Moundsville with Fr. Terrance Adams and Fr. Edward Stafford as celebrants, and Rev. Teresa Markins, Rev. Dr. John Lepp, and Dr. Jason Turner as liturgists. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; or Simpson UMC, 800 7th St., Moundsville, or Bishop Donahue High School Scholarship Fund, 325 Logan St., McMechen, WV 26040
