Raymond W. Straub, 93, of Sardis, Ohio, passed peacefully Sunday, August 28, 2022, at his home. Raymond was born May 24, 1929, in Round Bottom, OH, a son of the late Fred H. and Freda Winkler Straub. On November 12, 1950, he married the love of his life, Dolores Bauman Straub. They shared 71 wonderful years of marriage together. He is preceded in death by his siblings Charles Straub, Martha Straub Shaw and Vernon Straub. He is survived by his loving wife Delores, two daughters, Debra Ann (Richard) Kellner of Shadyside, OH and Mona Rae (Doug) Duvall of Sardis, OH; 5 grandchildren, Melissa (Matthew) Mansuetta of Wheeling, WV; Jennifer (Mario) Kellner-Muscar of Wheeling; John (Kali) Kellner of Shadyside; Jessica (Jason) Graham of Sardis; Erica (Joshua) Kernik of Bellaire, OH; great grandchildren, Sydney and Ramsay Mansuetto, Flannery and Nico Muscar, Jase and Dylan Kellner and Olivia and Paislee Graham. Raymond began his working career at a young age, working beside his dad and brothers as they thrashed wheat. In 1952, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corp and was stationed in San Diego. He proudly served his country for 2 years during the Korean Conflict and was an active member of the American Legion Post 760, Hannibal, OH. He retired from Conalco in 1984 as a guard and speed operator in the hot mill. He also served as director, treasurer, Vice President and agent at German Farmers Mutual in Laings, OH for 40 years. He was a lifelong farmer, enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to play cards. He delighted in his family, especially his great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Zion UCC in Sardis, OH. Raymond’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all his special caregivers for taking exceptional care of him. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory 751 Third St. New Martinsville, WV, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am with Rev. Randall Gehres officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Memorial Garden, Sardis, with Military Honors. Memorial contributions can be made to the Zion United Church of Christ Perpetual Care Fund or the American Legion Post 760.
