Gordon Lloyd Swartz, III, age 74 of Cameron, WV died Saturday, July 30, 2022 in Select Specialty Hospital, Wheeling, WV. He was born May 6, 1948 in Charleston, WV the son of Gordon Lloyd Swartz, II of Princeton, WV and the late Eleanor Ruth Higgins Swartz. He was a US Marine Veteran; a retired coal miner from Shoemaker Mine; a member of UMWA Local #1473, where he served as recording secretary; a West Virginia Historian and published author. He loved hunting, fishing, hiking and sports, especially WVU Basketball. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joshua Greathouse; and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Ruth Hartley Swartz; six children, Gordon Lloyd, IV (Cheryl) Swartz of Jacksonburg, WV, Craig Hartley (Misty) Swartz of College Station, TX, Joy Lorraine Swartz Greathouse of Cameron, WV, Matthew Morgan (Nichole) Swartz of Claridge, PA, Connor Brandt Swartz of Charleston, WV, and Cody Walker Swartz of Cheney, WA; two brothers, Emery (Rick Winckler) Swartz of Port St. Lucie, Fl; and Clay (Mary Ann Workman) Swartz of South Charleston, WV; a sister, Teresa Swartz (Frank) Roberts of Lawrenceville, GA; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Private services and interment will be held by the family at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Calis, WV. Arrangements entrusted to Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, Moundsville.
