    James B. Montgomery

    September 20, 1945 - February 16, 2022

    James Bernard Montgomery, age 76, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at WVU Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV. He was born September 20, 1945, in New Martinsville, WV, the son of the late Joseph and Kathleen Siron Montgomery. He was a retired Rural Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, served in the US Army Reserves, a lifetime member of NRA, a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, and WV Rural Letter Carriers Association & Auxiliary where he served as President and State Union Stewart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Margie “Toots” McCoy Montgomery in 2021; a brother, Robert Montgomery; a sister, Louise Montgomery; and a granddaughter, Ashley Anne Montgomery. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Gale) Merckle of Sardis, OH and Jaime (Dave) Butler of Belmont, OH; two sons, Jeff Montgomery of New Martinsville, WV, and Daniel (Barbara) Montgomery of Paden City, WV; a sister, Ellen (Allen) Spencer of New Martinsville; five grandchildren; Jesse (Laine Fankhauser) Merckle, Dusty Butler, Miranda Mongomery, Emilie Butler, and Jerrid Yeater; two great grandchildren, Nicole Thibodeau and Dalton Larmer; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 1pm until the time of the Funeral Service at 3pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory 751 Third St. New Martinsville with Msgr Kevin Quirk officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wounded Warriors Project P.O. Box 758516 Topeka, KS 66675-8516, or Robert “Mike” Allman Scholarship c/o Stephanie Adams P.O. Box 2702, Buchannon, WV 26201.
