John H. Gompers, 64, of Wheeling died Thursday, August 20, 2020. Born April 5, 1956, he was the youngest child of William and Sara Gompers. John was a Catholic by faith and a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He was a former manager of the VooDoo Club and Coach of the former IDE Men’s Softball Team. He loved the Indians, Browns and Fighting Irish. He was a member of the Cave Club, Snakes Club and Wheeling Moose Lodge. A lifelong student of history, particularly the Civil War, his favorite place on earth was Gettysburg. John is survived by his wife, Thea Gompers; brother, Tom (Lucille) Gompers of Wheeling; sisters, Mary Lynn (Chris) Kreitzer and Janet (Ron) Taylor, both of Wheeling; brother-in-law, Ralph Taylor of Washington, PA, sisters-in-law, Melissa (Ralph) Metz of Claysville, PA, and Laura (Andrew) Monaco of College Station, TX; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and little kitty, Gracie. Family will receive friends Saturday from 2-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 1 Ridgecrest Road, Bethlehem/Wheeling. A Prayer Service at 7:45pm by Sister Mary Ann Rosenbaum. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
