Josie Leona Strickling, age 93 of Glen Dale, WV died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Liza’s Place, Wheeling, WV. She was born May 16, 1927 on Piggin Run, West Union, WV, the daughter of the late Stella May and Aley Arthur Williams. She was a 1945 graduate of Doddridge County High School, where she served as senior class president; worked in the Doddridge County Clerk’s office where she met and later married Joseph C. Strickling on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1949; was a life member of the PTA; a 30 year volunteer at Reynolds Memorial Hospital; an active member of Glen Dale United Methodist Church; and enjoyed cooking, gardening, and tending her flowers. In addition to her parents and husband, Joseph; who died on May 3, 1985, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elma Lipscomb; and four brothers, Robert, Roy, Joseph, and Cassel Hale Williams. Survivors include her daughters, Margaret (Bob) Ripley and Stella Strickling, all of Glen Dale, Mary Jo (Joe) Kovalcik of Moundsville; her sons, Robert (Susan) Strickling of Bethel Park, PA, and Tom (Patti) Strickling of New Philadelphia, OH; five grandchildren, Annie (Jeremy) Herback of Fairmont, WV, Alex (Becci) Ripley of Sherrard, WV, Robby Strickling of Bethel Park, Lydia Strickling of Hyde Park, NY, and Emma Strickling of Bethel Park; three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Arya, and Amelya; a sister-in-law, Betty Williams of Doylestown, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Family requests that masks be worn to visitation on Friday, from 3pm until 5pm with a brief prayer service to be held at 4:45pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville. Interment and Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1pm at Masonic Memorial Park, West Union, WV with Rev. Chris Duckworth officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Glen Dale United Methodist Church Compassion Fund, 700 Wheeling Ave., Glen Dale, WV 26038.
