Mark Douglas "Sparkplug" Custer, 59, of Wheeling, WV, died Sunday, September 27, 2020 at home surrounded by his family and friends. He was born August 15, 1961 in Wheeling; the son of the late William Franklin and Joan Cowan Custer. He was retired from Walters Construction Company after working 34 years; a member of Labors Union #1149; Elm Grove Eagles #1891; loved the outdoors. Mark always found time to help a friend. He was loved by everyone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John Robert Auber. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Kim Auber Custer; two children, Mark D. Custer, Jr. and Marisa Custer, both at home; one brother, Wayne (Rita) Custer of Wheeling; one sister, Rhonda (Bill) Martin of Moundsville; mother-in-law, Frances Auber of Wheeling; sister-in-law, Dana (Alfonso) Zambito of Wheeling; brother-in-law, John M. Auber of Wheeling; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Family will receive friends Thursday from 1-3pm and 5-8pm at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 1 Ridgecrest Rd., Bethlehem/Wheeling. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude’s Hospital.
