Robert Richard Hanket, age 82 of Moundsville, WV died Sunday, January 3, 2021 in Wheeling Hospital Medical Park, Wheeling, WV. The son of Harry William and Dorothy Ayers Hanket, was born August 4, 1938 in Wheeling, WV. He moved to Moundsville in 1952 after the death of his father. Bob was a member and usher of the Ash Avenue Church of God; was employed by Louis Marx Toys, Allied Chemical, North Plant, and the Marshall County Board of Education, from where he retired in 1998. He was active in the John Marshall Boosters since 1982 and president since 1991, a member of the Field Renovation Committee, a Certified Track Official for more than 30 years, he was an assistant coach with the American Legion Post #3 baseball team for five years, filmed girls basketball for the coach, a member of the Marshall County Retired School Employees, a member of the McDonald Peppers Coffee Club, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1087, Moundsville Lions, Knights of Pythias #79, Moundsville Eagles, B-MAC Club, and an avid Steelers, and especially a WVU football fan, having missed only five games between 1985 and 2013. He was presented with the Athletic Directors Association “Distinguished Service Award” on April 25, 2009. Bob has been “Santa Claus” for many years for the Ebert Brothers Christmas Show, private parties, local organizations, doctor’s offices and nursing homes in the area. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his in-laws, Melvin and Virginia Wilson Riggs; a brother, Harry William Hanket II and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Fragale, brother-in-law James J. Fragale, sister-in-law Betty Ice Hanket, a niece Rita Beth Hanket Zearott and a nephew, Harry William Hanket III. Surviving in addition to his wife, Lexie of 60 years, are his sons, Robert Richard (Rick) (Joy)Hanket, Theodore Lesley (Ted) (Beth) Hanket, grandsons, Jason Richard Hanket and Devin E. Starkey, and his “favorite” granddaughters, Brittany Jo (Bobby) Birch, Brandi Nichole (Zach) Alderman, Sydney Morgan (Isaiah) Barr, Courtney Taylor Hanket, Jenna Rae Hanket, 7 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Sina Riggs Morris. Nephews Jim Fragale, Scott Hanket, Christopher Morris, and David Fragale, Nieces, Brenda Hanket Bruning, Laura Morris (Jay) Pedalose and Elaine Fragale (Kurt) Speaker; and many great-nephews and great-nieces. The Family requests that masks be worn as friends are received for visitation on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm, with Lion’s Services at 7pm, and Friday visitation from 12noon until time of Funeral Service and Knights of Pythias Service at 1pm at Grisell Funeral Homes & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville with Pastor C.J. Plogger and Rev. Tim Wilt officiating. Entombment in Riverview Cemetery Mausolem, Moundsville.
