Tributes

Holder, Valerie O., age 101, of New Martinsville, WV, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the New Martinsville Health Care Center where she had been a resident for 6 years. She was affectionately known as husband Ben’s beautiful baby; Bonnie’s precious Mother; Connie’s dear Mama; Scott, Steven, Jeannie and Lynda’s Grandma; and Chase, Grant, Juliana and Ava’s Old Nan. Val was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Merle E. “Ben” Holder (2003), her parents, Maizie and Frank Fridline, four brothers, Gary, Boyd, Harry, and Carl Fridline. Val was born in Ashland, OH on August 6, 1907. In 1928 she married Ben, the love of her life. They lived in Barberton, OH until 1947, when they moved to New Martinsville, WV. Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Makris of New Martinsville, WV, and Connie Salland of Virginia Beach, VA; four grandchildren, Scott Salland of Hawaii, Steven Salland of Virginia Beach, VA, Jeannie (John) Cain, and Lynda (Gary) Frizzell, both of New Martinsville; four great grandchildren, Chase Holder Cain, Grant Alexander Cain, Juliana Makris Frizzell and Ava Marquis Frizzell, all of New Martinsville Val was active in many civic organizations. She was a president of the New Martinsville Civic League and also the Japonica Hospital Twig. She was an avid bridge player, both party and duplicate. She was a long time member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church and belonged to the Women’s Society. Val’s family thanks all those involved with the New Martinsville Health Care Center for the quality care she received. The personnel there enabled her to remain the gentle, smiling, sweet person we have always known her to be. There will be no visitation. Private services will be held at the Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 751 Third St. New Martinsville, at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 10, 2009 with Pastor Rene’ Wilt officiating. Interment following in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville. Memorial contributions may be made to New Martinsville United Methodist Church, 10 Howard Jeffers Dr. New Martinsville, WV 26155 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
