Jenkins, Jack “Gordon”, Jr. of Wheeling, died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at home, from glioblastoma of 11 months. He was born July 24, 1947 in Wheeling, WV the son of the late Jack Jenkins and Mary Catherine Mitchell Jenkins. He was a loving husband of Phyllis Lemasters Jenkins for 42 years and an exemplary father to sons: Michael and Jimi. Gordon, as he was known, served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1990, retired as a CPO with the USNR as a recruiter. He had the opportunity, after retirement, to fulfill a lifelong dream while he and Phyllis “lived on the road” for 4 years, before settling back home in 1994. He managed the AMF Elm Grove Lanes for several years. He enjoyed the sport with a high average and loved “his bowlers”, he was very friendly and personable. For 10 years he worked for Cox Security and MSU as a mystery shopper for KFC & TB, visiting restaurants all over the eastern U.S., with Phyllis accompanying him because they both loved to travel. Gordon loved many things, God and country, family and friends, and felt blessed to have done all that he did, leaving for his heavenly home with no regrets! Survivors include his wife: Phyllis; sons: Michael (Andrea) Jenkins and their daughter Victoria; Jimi (Teresa) Jenkins and their children Jacob, Elijah and Jessie; special friend: Celeste and Family; his mother: Etta E. Johnston Jenkins; brothers: Richard and Gary and their families; sisters: Suzie Griffith and Diana Robbins and their families. Jim and Lorna Lemasters, Ronnie Lemasters and family, Rhonda Lemasters and family, his classmates of Moundsville High class of 1965 and his church family at the First Baptist Church of Wheeling. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-9pm and on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville. Friends will also be received at the First Baptist Church, 1470 National Road, Wheeling on Friday from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am with Rev. Darrin Wright officiating and the Moundsville Honor Guard conducting Military Services. Interment in the V.A. Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA with Navy military services.
