Roberts, Joseph Webster, age 85 of Sixth Street, Moundsville, WV passed from this life on Tuesday, January 22, 2008. He was born March 17, 1922 in Moundsville, the son of Herbert “Bud” Elmer Roberts and Lucy Eileen Kreglow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Corine Anderson Roberts. He will be missed by his many friends and especially by his companion, Nila B. Shelton. Mr. Roberts graduated in 1940 from Moundsville High School and following his service in WWII; he graduated from West Virginia University where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He was a US Army veteran with the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Roberts was retired from Allied Chemical Company; served on the Board of Directors of Reynolds Memorial Hospital; the Marshall Co. Senior Citizens Center; was a former Vestryman at Trinity Episcopal Church in Moundsville; a member of Marshall Union Lodge #8; a member of the Osiris Shrine, Wheeling; a 32 degree Mason with the Scottish Rite; the Knights Templar and Sons of the American Revolution. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club, Earl Francis Post #3 American Legion; the Marshall Co. Historical Society and was an avid fan of John Marshall High School Baseball. Mr. Roberts pursued a lifelong interest in collecting United States postage stamps and he exhibited the extensive collection several times at the Delf Norona Museum in Moundsville. In 2002, he sponsored the installation of a West Virginia Historic Highway Marker in Moundsville commemorating the visit to this city in 1927 of famed aviator, Charles A. Lindbergh. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Ave., Moundsville with Rev. Patricia Geerdes officiating. Interment in Mt. Rose Cemetery, Moundsville where Marshall Union Lodge #8 will conduct Masonic graveside services.
